Today, we're looking at the phrase or verb “shut down”. We're working on building our vocabulary, which is the most important thing you can do to become more fluent in English. “Shut down” can be used in different situations. It basically means to stop working or to stop functioning completely. For example: • My computer shut down unexpectedly while I was working on my project. Here my computer just stopped working. • The factory shut down because the company went bankrupt. Here the factory closed because the company ran out of money. • A big accident shut down the whole highway.
