Today, we're looking at the phrase or verb β€œshut down”. We're working on building our vocabulary, which is the most important thing you can do to become more fluent in English. β€œShut down” can be used in different situations. It basically means to stop working or to stop functioning completely. For example: β€’ My computer shut down unexpectedly while I was working on my project. Here my computer just stopped working. β€’ The factory shut down because the company went bankrupt. Here the factory closed because the company ran out of money. β€’ A big accident shut down the whole highway.
