Idiom: ON THE FLY - English Vocabulary #shorts

What happens if you do something on the fly? To do something on the fly is an idiomatic expression that means to do something quickly, spontaneously, without any preparation. So the meaning is similar to the expressions "to wing it" or "to play it by ear," which I've covered in a couple of previous videos. Here are some examples to illustrate: • I didn't have time to prepare a speech, so I had to do it on the fly. • During the interview, she faced some tough questions which she answered on the fly. • The project faced unexpected challenges, but we were able to find solutions on the fly. • I can't answer anything on the fly. I have to know what they're wondering before it happens. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
