Phrasal Verb: SLOW DOWN - English Vocabulary #shorts #idioms #english

Today's phrasal verb is "slow down." Phrasal verbs are tricky because they usually have more than one meaning, and the meaning is idiomatic. That means we cannot figure out the meaning of the phrase from the words in the phrase. So, if something slows down, it begins to move or happen less quickly. For example, if you're walking with a friend and they're going too fast, you can say, "Hey, can you please slow down?" If you're driving near a school, you should definitely slow down to the posted speed limit. Or, in a business setting, "The economy really slowed down in the fourth quarter." "Slow down" can also mean that something becomes less active or less intense. The doctor told me that I should slow down and not work so hard. The town really slows down in the winter when there are fewer tourists around. Remember, learning English is a marathon; it's not a sprint. Sometimes you have to slow down to really absorb it all. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
